I am a bit of a book a bach guru, I love it, and I do my homework, so I know it’s good for my dogs and good for me. When I am booking I always use the filter “pets allowed” and the general area I want to stay. Firstly, I know that kennels cost at least $25 - $35 per day per dog, so having 2 dogs in the kennels for 3 nights (4 days) costs between$200 - $280.

I never book on the high season and I avoid the school holidays, there are many reasons for this including, dogs not allowed on most beaches during the summer months, and I prefer not to be on holiday with everyone else, not to mention the traffic. Also, if we take our dogs with us, we want to leave them in the car when we stop at a café or the shops, so it must be a bit cooler. (we now have a lockable cage door in the back of the car, so it’s not such an issue as it used to be, but we like to be careful).

This bach is fantastic to share with friends, it has 4 bedrooms all with comfortable queen sized beds each! For the kids, there are pull out beds and couch beds, if you need them. It’s a good old kiwi batch with a modern twist, fresh clean and all the trimmings, dishwasher, great gas top stove/oven and microwave. The location has no view of the sea, but it makes up for it by its location so close to stunning walks and beaches. 10 mins drive to Matakana Markets (recommend you are there by 9.30am to avoid the crowds) and 5 min walk to the Leigh Sawmill for lunch dinner or to see live entertainment on most weekends. The fabulous back yard, and covered outside area for talking the nights or days away.

The bathroom is huge, with a double bath that is too good to share, and the shower is powerful too. We took our staff to this bach for our work Christmas function, it suited our needs perfectly with privacy for everyone having a room each, and one with its own private bathroom/laundry.

This property is fully fenced, though the gate is a bit low, I never leave my dogs in someone else’s place alone anyway. The backyard boasts an old massy Ferguson tractor perfect for fun photos, it also have a sunken outside bath right next to the covered social BBQ area, which you can fill from a cold hose, if your dogs or kids want a pool to play in, or you can add some hot water from inside if you need it a bit warmer.  from the road you would never know it was so big, it really looks like an old bach, don’t let this put you off, we call it “The Tardis”. It is cheap enough for a couple to stay off season, and perfect for girls weekends away.  It has a sunken lounge with a fireplace TV lazy boy and couches to lay about on. If you want to make your weekend even more special plan ahead and contact Theresa at Palm Tree Beauty, we chose to do a massage each, and set up the sunken lounge with her table, drew the curtains and turned it into the ultimate relaxation retreat. Unknown to Theresa one of us in our group is a massage therapist also, so she was going to have to be great to impress … and she did!

This bach has the option of linen supplied and cleaning done, its well worth the extra money not to worry about anything and have your own private “hotel”
